The digital Cabin Intercommunication Data System (CIDS)
is the cabin core system of all Airbus aircraft. CIDS operates and monitors various passenger and crew functions such as:
-Passenger / Cabin Announcement -Cabin Temperature Control -Water / Waste Tank Level Indication -Cabin Illumination -Emergency & Evacuation Signalling -Flight Deck Terrorist Warning -Lavatory Smoke Warning & Indication -Aircraft Doors & Slides Status -IFE System Status -Various Optional Functions

Characteristics:
-In-seat power supply system for notebook computers, handheld video players and other PEDs (Personal Electronic Devices) -Flexible Power management capabilities for electrical seat equipment -High level of Aircraft protection
Certification:
-15 VDC system certified and in-service since October 1998 -110 VAC system certified in July 1999 (German LBA approval)
and July 2000 (FAA approval) -110 VAC system in-service since April 2000 -Corresponds to the latest safety and certification standards
The 3rd Generation:
-New outlet unit, which enables even more passengers to use the system, compatible for plugs from over 90 countries -Increase of output power from 75 to 100 watt

This unit connects up to three electronic consumer boxes in the seat (e.g. IFE, seat controller, PC power units). The ESIB-2 fulfils the latest power requirements, in accordance to the Airbus Enhanced Cabin Specification.
