Taking benefit from worldwide Aeronautical Information and NAV Data Base maintained by
Jeppesen and their charting infrastructure, a new system of AOM depiction and its application is being
introduced In AI. The new system is found to be more dependable from the compliance point of view and is
duly approved by DGCA.
Under the new system, Airports \-vill be divided into 3 categories for AOM depiction. For all
specified foreign destinations and at least two preferred alternates for each such destination, customised
(tailored) sheets with page index No.11-O or 21-0 etc. depicting AOM will be procured from Jeppesen. (A
sample copy for London is attached). For other non-specified foreign airports as well as Indian airports,
Standard Jeppesen Charts INiIlbe referred. Minima values on the tailored sheets will be constructed for the
installed facility, i.e. FF IF or BF. Unless considered necessary for any specific reasons, as a standard
practice incremental values shown for degradation of Lighting System will be directly to BF/ALS OUT.
Normally this practice is also followed for Standard Jeppesen Charts.
Tailored sheets or the Airport charts, as applicable, will be used for minima reference in the
following manner. Updating of tailored sheets win be ensured automatically by Jeppesen.
A. The revised method of minima reference is explained below against each category.
1. Indian Airports~ Standard Jeppesen Approach Charts will be used. Minima depicted on these
charts are according to Indian DGCA rules.
2. Foreign Destinations: Jeppesen customised (tilored) minima sheets indexed 11-0 or 21-0 etc.
provided for each such airport will be used. Minima depicted on these sheets will be as per
Indian DGCA or state of the aerodrome rules, whichever is higher.
3. Preferred Foreign Alternates: There will be at least two preferred alternates for each foreign
destination for which tailored sheets will be provided and used, in the same manner as for foreign
destinations. Certain destinations may also serve as preferred alternates for other destinations.
4. Other foreign airports: For other non-specified foreign airports for which tailored sheets are not
provided, standard Jeppesen Approach Charts will be used. Minima depleted on these charts are
according to state of the aerodrome rules.
Note: As per DGCA approval, following will be the minimum values of AOM and RVR
requirements for Landing and Take-off at all airports. Depicted minima on respective tailored
sheets/approach charts if higher will be applicable. Exceptions for LTOM under Cat-I and above
operations are explained separately.
Approach DH Toch D m RVR Mid RVR Roll Out RVR
CAT-I 200FT 550M/1800FT NOT APPLICABLE NOT APPLICABLE
CAT-II 100FT 350M/1200FT 200M/1000FT NOT APPLICABLE
CAT-iliA 50FT 200MI700FT 200M/700FT 200M/700FT
Values in feet meant for US airports are higher OfFAA or Indian DGCA requirements
B. State Alternate Minima:
Where applicable the published Alternate minima required for filing will be depicted on the tailored
sheets. For non..specified foreign airports standard charts will be referred for such minima.

C. Take-offMinima:
1. Take-off minima for Cat-III11IAwill be equal to the landing minima as per tables shown above.
State minima if higher will be shown in the Guidance Manual.
2. Take off minima lower than landing minima can be applied for Cat-I and above operations.
Tailored sheets will show minimum values of LTOM appHcablefor the runway.
3. When RVR is not available the lowest take-off minima will be VIS 800m! %SM.
Note: DGCA is in the process of issuing reviSE:,'AI(Oj M specifications, under which 30% criteria for
take-off minima is proposed to be withdrawn. Tailored sheets for take off minima have been
prepared in anticipation of the expected changes. Therefore, until the new DGCA Operations
Circular is issued, crew will be required to abide by the existing method of calculation of Take-off
minima not lower than 30% of the landing minima for an categories of airports for Cat-I and above
operations with minimum values as 500 and 400m for Indian and foreign airports respectively.
D. Cat·II/1MII inima:
1. Master document for Cat-II/III minima reference will be the Cat-II/III Guidance Manual kept on
board. The guidance Manual 'Mil carry up to date list of Cat-II/Ill approved Runways and the
applicable minima. State of the aerodrome minima, if higher, will be shown.
2. Cat-WillA minima depicted on the tailored sheets will be Indicative of the installed approach
facility presupposing that the runway is approved for such an operation. However, at the time of
actual use, authorisation for the aerodrome must be confirmed from Cat-II/Ill Guidance Manual.
3. As there are no constructional differences between Cat-II and Cat-III Approach procedures except
for minima, it has been decided to use standard Cat-II charts for both Cat-II and CaHII type of
approaches for authorised airports. However, for Indian airports tailored approach charts 'Mil be
issued. (At present only Delhi Runway 28 is authorised). While the Cat-II minima may slightly
vary from DH 100 due to terrain on short approach but Cat-iliA DH wll always be 50 feet.
E. NOTAMChanges:
1. Minima increment due to ALSlRWY Ughting System degradation is only a one step calculation.
Degradation in ALS or RWY Ughting System \-\rill require VISlRVR minima to be raised to
applicable values for BFfALS OUT mentioned in the sheets/charts. Calculation for IF is not
considered.
Note: There may be occasions when as against the actual degradation of ALS to IF, the above
method results in excessive increment of minima which may adversely affect operations. Under
such circumstances, if considered necessary, a separate calculation of appropriate minima for IF
may be issued through INTAMs.
2. In the rare event of temporary OCA increment above charted DAlMDA and when revised minima
alongside OCA charges are not mentioned, following method will be applied to revise minima.
This procedure of lTIanual calculation may look cumbersome at first glance but it should not
unduly worry the crew. Wor1dng on an example will reveal the simple nature of methodology
shown.
a) Cat-I Precision Approach: Subtract threshold elevation from new OCA to arrive at DH. Use this
DH to arrive at VISlRVR minima from the table below for Cat-I Precision Approach.
b) Non-Precision Approach: Subtract threshold or ARP elevation, whichever is lower, fram new OCA
to arrive at MOH. Use this MDH to alTive at VIS minima from the table below far Non-precision
Approach.
c) Circlino Minima: Subtract ARP elevation from new OCA to arrive at MDH. Lowest MDH to be
used for circling minima will be 600 ft. and 700 ft. for Cat-C and Cat-D respectively. Use the
applicable MDH to arrive at VIS minima from the Non-Precision Approach SF table below. No
credit of ALS is to be taken.
As per the decision taken for the new system only FF and SF tables are produced below:

RWY end lights. Lights must be on.
~. SF comprisl3 Simple ALS (any lengths) or no ALS at all, RL, RWY markings, Threshold Lights,
RWY end lights. Lights must be on. For simple understanding, any degradation in HIALS and/or
HIRL under FF will reduce this facility to BF.
With the revision dated 19th Dec. 03 the tailored minima sheets have started appearing in the Route
manual and by about mid Feb.04 work for all the required airports will be completed. Therefore, the tailored
sheets are to be used for minima reference when found in the Route manual superceding the old system.
Normally the tailored sheets will be indexed as 11-0 with Air India Logo but when there is another
ai~)Ort within the same city the sheet for the 2nd airport will use index No. as 21-0. These minima sheets
should not be confused with other similar looking standard sheets sometimes provided by Jeppesen under
different index numbers. Such sheets will not have Air India Logo.
To cater for the above system and other changes under consideration, a revision to the Weather
Chapter of the Jeppesen manual will be issued in due course. As and when new AOM specifications are
issued by DGCA the same will also be incorporated in the revision to the Weather Chapter.
~.~ (Ca\t..s.Chav.4a)
General Manager-FltOps.
The present method of providing minima lists in thE! weather section of the Jeppesen manual will
stand withdrawn from the date all required tailored sheets from Jeppesen have been incorporated in the
Route manuals.
