Condition/Background:
Cause:
- BSV was removed from production CFM56-7
engines during first quarter, 2000
- Many CFM56-7 field engines still use BSV
- Need to support customer option of either eliminating or deactivating the BSV without making extensive hardware changes Customer has requested ability to remove the BSV on-wing.

Mission
SCtraeatteema ceosntte:ffective solution that will allow the customer to remove the Burner
Staging Valve without compromising engine safety and performance.
Program requirements: Develop substantiation plan, analysis/component test,
CID preparation/submittal, FAA approval, hardware release
and delivery 1st quarter, 2001.
Technical requirements: Concept functions as BSV ‘open’, maintain fuel flow at
all power levels, park BSV electrical cables, and ‘cap’ fuel/
hydraulic lines at jumper-to-manifold interface.
Customer input: Simple hardware change, cost effective, and meet
delivery date.

Status
• Engine test successfully completed - November
– back to back fuel system stability testing
– tubing and bracket vibratory characteristics
• Hardware release on track for end of 1st quarter
• Final “Hurdle”: Fuel Coking
- downstream hydraulic line (~8 inches) will be stagnant (upstream
will be blown and capped)
- BSV hydraulic line fuel coking recently discovered on another CFM
engine
- analysis and engine test to determine fuel tube temperatures
