Flight Crew Training
Training for flight crews current in
B737-600/-700/-800/-900 aircraft is
established at Level A..
GLS approach procedures and
techniques are identical to those
of ILS (with 2 minor exceptions):
ILS uses a radio frequency whereas
the GLS is a channel on the MMR.
The navigation reference on the PFD
say “GLS” instead of “ILS”.
Crew actions while flying a GLS
approach are the same as those
for an ILS approach.

GLS on other Boeing Models
For the 787 Dreamliner, GLS
is a basic capability (2010).
For the 747-8, GLS is a basic
capability (provisioned for
Category III) (2010).
For the 777, Boeing is
evaluating the potential
incorporation of GLS
Category III capability.
Implementation on other
Boeing models is subject to
customer demand.

Future Category III Capability with GBAS
Boeing & FAA are pursuing
cooperative development for
Category II/III capability.
Standards are Maturing:
RTCA MOPS approved by SC-159
Draft ICAO SARPS developed –
validation is proceeding
Revised Total System Architecture
Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR)
enhancements
GPS antenna improvements
GBAS Software development to DO-
278 Level A
Improved ground station monitoring
