PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 7/62 The engine identification numbers are displayed amber because the engines are not running. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 8/62 PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 9/62 During preliminary cockpit preparation all white lights must be extinguished. With the ENG BLEED pb sw in the lights out position, the bleed valves are automatically controlled by the system. Observe the symbology on the ECAM. The bleed valves are cross-line green because they are fully closed. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 10/62 The HP valves are also automatically controlled by the system. They are displayed crossline green to indicate that they are fully closed. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 11/62 The bleed temperature is displayed in green. The bleed pressure is displayed in amber because there is no pressure supplied. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 12/62 The GND HP connection indication is always displayed in green when the aircraft is on the ground whether the GND unit is connected or not. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 13/62 You also have to check that the X BLEED selector is in AUTO position. Observe the indication on the ECAM. The X BLEED valve is displayed cross-line green because it is automatically closed by the system. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 14/62 Since the APU BLEED pb sw is selected off, the APU BLEED valve is displayed cross-line green, indicating that it is closed. POWER PLANT (IAE) Manual Start 2/31
We will see now, how to manually start the engines.
There are several reasons why a manual start may be
required including low pneumatic pressure.
The main difference between a manual and an automatic
start is that the pilot controls the time at which fuel and
ignition are supplied to the engine.
The FADEC only provides passive monitoring of the engine
during the start sequence. This means that responsibility for
preventing an over limit start remains with the pilot.
Note: Manual starts are completed using the procedure detailed
in FCOM 3- procedures and techniques
MENU
POWER PLANT (IAE) Manual Start 3/31
The FADEC controls:
- the closure of the start valve at 43 % N2
- and ignition cut off on the ground.
MENU
POWER PLANT (IAE) Manual Start 4/31
The configuration is the same. On the E/WD, all indications
related to the engines are displayed in amber as long as the
FADECs are not powered.
In order to start the engines, the engine mode selector must
be switched to IGN/START position first.
