Problem:
• Flaking of dovetail coating on Fan Blades (PN 340-001-022-0); subsequent
wear of blade and disk slot
• ~1500 engines affected
Corrective Actions:
• Periodic fan blade and disk lubrication per CESM005
• Fleet upgrade to the undercut fan blade dovetail geometry
 PN 340-001-026 (new) and PN 340-001-027 (reworked) per SB 72-253
Fleet Support:
• Fan blade rotable pool increased to 100 sets since Sept.01
• Three substantiated rework sites (APS, Chem-tronics, SNS StQuentin)
Retrofit Status:
• As of Jan 02, 1st relube on 63%, undercut on 37% of affected fleet
• Steady implementation with current avg. rate ~60 sets/month

Fan Blade Hot Re-form Repair
• Repair 15-93392 approved
• Repair site operational since Dec 2001
• One page repair implemented in the Engine Shop Manual
 Referenced #007
 Current repair requests form tolerance defects defined for production
parts
– To date 15 fan blades over 60 received have been repaired,
and released
• Design office analysis on-going to open form tolerance criteria

Fan Blade Patch Repair
• Patch repair in progress
 Patch definition available
 Hardware available for validation by Apr 2002
 Ingestion, and Vibratory certification tests scheduled
3rd Qtr 2002
• First Source operational in 2003

Blamap: Software for CFM56-7B Fan Blade mapping
• Version 1.1
 Improvement on blade pair moment weight test difference
 Get rid of “Window 3.11” environment
 Delivered in Oct 2001
• Version 2.0
 All CFM engine capability
 Blamap V 2.0 will be available for Window 95/98/2000/millennium
 Target date: 3rd Qtr 2002
• These tool cannot be implemented on a server
 Software code is not compatible, would require a complete rework
• Help Guide
 Notice to be written to guide airlines, and explain all tool functions
• Implementation of Blamap Tool on the CFM Web under evaluation
