P. RETIF 1 TASK GROUP REPORT FOR SUB-CONTRACTING OF JAR 66 MAINTENANCE POWERPLANT TYPE TRAINING ACCORDING TO JAR 147 CHANGE 1 Working group N°4 made up of: Michel CHRISTOPHE AIRBUS TRAINING Olivier LOVINY AIR FRANCE FORMATION Pascal RETIF SNECMA SERVICES TRAINING and with the help of: Jim BECK ROLLS ROYCE TRAINING P. RETIF 2 POWERPLANT TYPE TRAINING Objective of the group: Write the specification for a powerplant course delivered under JAR 147 requirements, in terms of theoretical and practical content, duration and examination. Context: To be sure that all items are covered in case of: • a stand alone powerplant course. • a powerplant course included in the entire aircraft course. Definition of the powerplant Powerplant package comprises the “Bare Engine”, “Engine Build-Up” and the “ Nacelle systems ”. “Aircraft/Engine interfaces” topics are part of the powerplant. P. RETIF 6 POWERPLANT COURSE PRE-REQUISITES The trainee should have the necessary level of knowledge: • by having completed the JAR66 basic training or equivalent, • or hold an academic degree in an aeronautical discipline, supplemented by some experience on jet powered aircraft. P. RETIF 7 POWERPLANT THEORETICAL The program for adequate theoretical training shall cover: • Location & purpose of components, • description & operation of systems and sub-systems, • understanding of troubleshooting philosophy, • human factors. The theoretical training element is described in Appendix I of the specification “Contents of powerplant type training” P. RETIF 8 APPENDIX I CONTENTS OF POWERPLANT TYPE TRAINING Chapter Objectives Media Contents POWERPLANT ASSEMBLY Associated ATA : 71 - 78 TRAINING OBJECTIVES : describes the powerplant generally and its drainage, describes the hazards linked to the operation with thrust, describes the nacelle assembly, the engine, the mounts, the A/C systems integrated into the powerplant . Notes: it includes the access panels, the opening / actuating systems that are part of the nacelle assembly, it includes the powerplant connections to the pylon . MEDIA : Instructor led presentation or CBT. CONTENTS to describe : for the POWERPLANT GENERAL : the airflow, the hazard area, the wind limitations, the drain system, for the NACELLE ASSEMBLY : the inlet cowl, the Fan cowls, o the opening /closing of the cowls, o the latches ( its rigging ), the Thrust Reverser cowls, o the opening /closing of the cowls, o the latches ( their rigging ), the Thrust Reverser actuation system, o the reverse thrust control lever system and its interlocks, o the system operation and control, o the system components description and location, o the de-activation before maintenance, o the de-activation before flight, P. RETIF 9 The program for practical training shall satisfy: • locating the component, • handling of powerplant sub-systems that require safe maintenance practices, • hands-on practice, such as the change of LRU ’s, if it requires special precautions or techniques during the removal and installation process, • if needed, the correct use of specific technical documentation, • if needed, the correct use of on-board maintenance tools. The Practical training element is described in Appendix II of the specification “Practical elements for powerplant type training” POWERPLANT PRACTICAL P. RETIF 10 APPENDIX II PRACTICAL ELEMENTS FOR POWERPLANT TYPE TRAINING Objective Chapter Classification P. RETIF 11 COURSE DURATION The powerplant course duration criteria shall take into account: • the JAR 66 regulatory statement for the agreed training content developed, • the guidelines established by the industry . (such as EAMTC working groups) The manufacturers shall agree on recommended common type course content and course duration, for B1 and B2 courses. • B1 powerplant module is 30 Hrs • B2 powerplant module is 6 Hrs Refer to Appendix III “Duration of powerplant type Training” P. RETIF 12 APPENDIX III “DURATION OF powerplant TYPE TRAINING” Timing B1 Timing B2 P. RETIF 13 EXAMINATION • JAR requirements are a minimum of 2 questions per ATA chapter. • Powerplant exam model is based on 30 questions split in line maintenance for 2/3 and General Familiarization for 1/3, spread over all powerplant ATA chapters.
