2002M52P04/P05 Blade Shank cracking - 4 liberation events , last event Oct 03’ 1. Monitoring high-cycle operators 11 to 12.5K cycles • Southwest 42 or 59 engines complete – remaining completed by Jul 04’ • Xaimen 3 engines at 12K , working the plan, spare engines concern • SAS has 5 engines at 11K, working along with P09 sampling plan • TAP w/8 engines approaching 12K – a lot of work completed, need closure • Eurowings has 2 engines 11K – working negotiations 2. Investigating returned blade sets–11200 blades inspected ~ 6% confirmed cracked 3. 361 engine sets remain in the field – 308 CNY(1 or more) and 53 Mad (thin coating) Root TE cracking – no field events 1. Operators continue the great job of BSI’ing for this condition 2. Of 263 engine sets of blades removed – 147 removed for TE cracks, (75) 7B & (72) 5BP 3. Of the 361 engine sets in the field – 36 being monitored with TE root carcks Transition Zone Cracking – no field events 1. Investigating blade from ESN874 Ford BBJ – 9779 cycles with a thru wall crack CV side #1 cavity 2. Total events – 2 field engines with thru wall cracks with 9600 –9700 cycles, 1-CC,1-CV CFM56-7 CFM56-5BP 3D Aero HPT blade 3D Aero HPT blade 2002M52P09/P11 Blade Shank Cracking – no liberation events 1. PCB approval to sample 7 high-cycle engines – CNY coated 2. SAS has agreed on three –7’s, high cycle 12217, begins April 04’ 3. Southwest, GOL, Jet Airways,Braathens and Air Europa other possible -7 engine customer sampling – high cycle 11K 4. 1558 ( –7) engines contain P09/P11 blades, 326 are CNY coated 5. 5B/P customer Air France will pull 2 engines, timing TBD, now at 10.5K 6. Looking at other high-cycle 5B/P operators Croatia and Aer Lingus – only 10K 7. 7 out of the top 10 highest cycle 5B/P engines are Mad coated blades 8. 735 5B/P engines contain P09/P11 blades, 143 are CNY coated 9. Analysis of~ 2400 blades removed for other reason, found 1% cracked 3D Aero HPT blade 1975M10P03 Blade Introduction into production engines this month – 10 sets on-hand 1. New shank geometry – addressesType 1(shank cracking) and TZ cracking like the M10P01 blade 2. Thin shank coating same as the M52P14 and M10P01 3. N5- chemistry to eliminate Yttrium from casting – YtO2 @ airfoil separations 4. Like M52P09/11/14 has TE root cracking fix - CV platform holes 5. SB in process , timing based on P01 inventory depletion date (May 04’) |
