Introduction
This manual was made to inform the A320 pilots how they should proceed
and what steps they have to do before entering the airplane. Like in real life,
all pilots comply with very important procedures before going in the aircraft,
like, checking the flight plan and meteorology.
So if you read this manual, certainly your flight will run more safely and more
enjoyable.
In this manual you will find the most important steps to take before flight.
Flight Planning
The first thing pilots should do, once they receive their assignment, is to get a
Flight Plan for the respective flight. It’s not easy for a virtual pilot to get a
good one with all needed information. Now I’ll show you how to get and
understand a very professional flight plan for flight simulation.
· Go to www.pmflightplanner.com and register yourself to start working in
the website. All Pilots can access in this site to a list of SATA
International flight plans.
Just login with the company user name and password and go to FPL List.
There you have many Flight Plans. Using this way you will not have to
create any flight plan. Just download and print it, then proceed to your
flight briefing.

1. FPL-RZO129-IS
This is the flight Plan for SATA International, ICAO code RZO, flight
number 129, with Instrument Flight Rules – IFR (I) and a type of flight
indicating scheduled Air Transport (S).
2. A320/M-SDHIRWXY/C
Aircraft type, that is a Airbus A320;
Wake turbulence category (M) – Medium (aircraft with a maximum
certificated takeoff weight of less than 136.000 kg, but more than 7.000
kg);
Communication and Navigation Equipment (SDHIRWXY/C), explained
above in Flight Plan Form.
3. LPPT1910
ICAO code for the departure airport (Lisbon) at time 19:10h.
4. N0450F370 BUSEN… LPPD0200 LPAZ LPLA
This is the route, altitude and speed.
N0450 is 450 knots True Air Speed (TAS); M078 is Mach number 0,78.
F370 is flight level 370 or 37000 feets of altitude.
DCT is the short form for direct.

LPPD0200 is the ICAO code for the destination airport (João Paulo II
Airport at Ponta Delgada) and 0200 is the flight time.
LPAZ and LPLA are the two alternate airports.
5. EET/LPPO0044… DOF/040119 ORGN/RPL
Estimated Enroute Time is 44 minutes to Santa Maria Flight Information
Region (FIR) [LPPO] or KOMUT that is one of the entry/exit
intersections of LPPO. The rest are remarks such as aircraft registration,
selcal, day of flight, etc.

Sending Flight Plan to Vatsim
When you have all the information needed to start your flight go to
http://www.vatsim.net - File Flight Plan – Here is the place where the pilot
file and send the flight plan to the network. Another way to do it is directly on
SquawkBox. There are some important subjects here that I would like to refer.
The first one is how to file the flight level. The right way is with an F on the
beginning, for example F350. That’ s the same that 35000 feets of altitude.
Then the remarks field shall be:
REG/CSxxx SEL/yyyy CALLSIGN/AIR AZORES zzz OPR/SATA
INTERNATIONAL RMK/TCAS EQUIPPED
xxx is the last 3 aircraft’ s registration letters, yyyy is the aircraft’ s selcal and
zzz is the flight number. And that’ s all about sending flight plan to VATSIM.

Briefing
1. As you know, briefing a flight is fundamental. After completing the flight
plan procedure, you will check if everything is ok for the flight. For
example, if the trip fuel is corresponding or revising LDW (Landing
Weight), check if the LDW is not being exceeded, etc. So the first step of
briefing is checking the flight plan.
2. The second step is Meteorology. In virtual SATA International briefing
page at http://www.satavirtual.org/internacional/brief.html you’ ll find
METAR’ s, TAF’ s short TAF’ s and Meteo charts for your flight, like,
Satellite Pictures; cruising level OAT and Winds enroute.

Arriving at the Aircraft
Safety Exterior Inspection
· Check that SHOCKS are in position
· Check any maintenance works in progress
· Check landing gear doors are closed
· Check fuelling equipment
· Check APU area is clear
At Cockpit
· Check maintenance trouble report
· Check date and time period acceptable
· Check the release has been done
· Check REFUEL has been accomplished

Final Comments
This manual does not mean that you don’t have to read odder manuals. This is
basic information about virtual SATA International A320 Pre-Flight
Procedures. To complete your knowledge about this aircraft and Pre-flight
procedures you should read much more literature that you can find in the
internet, bookstores and in the VA web site.
