No sharp angle
Background
• At least 40% of delivered population may exhibit wear/marks in the slot corners : 0.005 to 0.010 in
(0.12 to 0.25 mm) deep
 Defects identified during on-wing maintenance action (part exposure)
Status
• All damage permitted if not more than 0.002 in (0.05 mm) deep after removal of high metal
• Two (2) repairs available applicable to the Fan Retaining Flange, and to the Fan Blade Spacer
• 3D Model analysis demonstrated that the interferences are mainly due to spacer sharp angles
geometry. New Spacer design cancels interferences with Fan Retaining Flange
Final Fix
• Spacer Design has been modified : Sharp angles rounded
 Parts implemented in production in Mar 2002
 SB 72-0344 R1 including new design, and rework procedure issued on 17 Dec 2001
• Fan Retaining Flange redesign has required additional analysis to optimize load distribution
 New design approval Feb 2002
 New parts in production 2 Q 2002
