CFM / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, October 2003 WTT Face to Face in Seville-Spain or Export are Prohibited 214 Advanced Airborne Vibration Monitoring (AAVM) Signal Conditioner Gary Morriss Boeing Service Engineering CFM / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, October 2003 WTT Face to Face in Seville-Spain or Export are Prohibited 215 What is UAVM and AAVM UAVM Universal Airborne Vibration Monitoring signal conditioner – AVM System developed by Vibrometer SA for installation on all the following Boeing production airplanes: 737-3/ -4/ -5/ -6/ -7/ -8/ -900, 747-400, 757-200/ -300 and 767-200/ -300/ -400. AAVM Advanced Airborne Vibration Monitoring signal conditioner – AVM system developed under a collaborative effort with CFM, Vibrometer SA and The Boeing Company to provide the next generation in vibration monitoring and analysis. An additional module has been added, independent of the required vibration monitoring and display functions, to collect and analyze the broadband vibration signals to detect #4 bearing defects. Future applications of this system are feasible as the system has been designed with future capabilities in mind. Boeing currently plans to certify the AAVM for 737 -3/ -4/ -5/ -6/ - 7/ -8/ -900 airplanes. CFM / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, October 2003 WTT Face to Face in Seville-Spain or Export are Prohibited 216 AAVM Advanced AVM system is the next generation in vibration monitoring systems providing: Identifies impending #4 Bearing failures Accelerometer / Cabling fault detection Provision for user determined functions Retrofit kit which: Upgrades the currently installed “Universal” Airborne Vibration Monitoring (UAVM) signal conditioner Replaces earlier AVM signal conditioners from Vibrometer & Endevco AAVM being offered as an option for: 737-300 thru –500 airplanes Requires addition of three signature pins to the E/E rack per Boeing S/B 737- 77-1055 (older AVMs are still interchangeable) This same change is required for the UAVM 737-600 thru –900 airplanes Airplanes prior to Line position 746 also require addition of signature pins per Boeing S/B 737-77-1056 (older AVMs are still interchangeable) CFM / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, October 2003 WTT Face to Face in Seville-Spain or Export are Prohibited 217 AAVM retains UAVM functionality All functions of the UAVM are retained in the AAVM Flightdeck Indication not affected. No change to scaling. Front Panel Display Engine Balance solutions AAVM functions are separate from UAVM on additional card No changes to vibration sensors or wires required AAVM feature requirements AAVM features require that the #1 bearing sensor be operational AAVM reporting Status of #4 bearing shows on AAVM front panel #4 bearing status can also show in a user defined ACMS report. Report can be transmitted to ground via ACARS if airplane so equipped CFM / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, October 2003 WTT Face to Face in Seville-Spain or Export are Prohibited 218 AAVM Status AAVM design complete Qualification and Certification Program Due to hardware and software changes needed to address qualification test failures, AAVM certification schedule has slid Qualification testing complete October 2003 First article Inspection November 2003 Certification flight test (pending airplane availability) December 2003 Certification of AAVM December 2003 Service Evaluation Start January 2004 at 5 operators with up to 18 AAVMs AAVM data collected weekly AAVMs to be moved to different airplane every 3-4 weeks to get exposure on large number of airplanes and engines Service Evaluation complete March 2004 AAVM availability Boeing Service Bulletin for AAVM available May 2004 Operators interested in the AAVM can contact Boeing and Vibrometer SA for more information |
