PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 1/62 PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 2/62 PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 3/62 You are in the Preliminary Cockpit Preparation phase. To better illustrate what occurs in the pneumatic system, select the ECAM BLEED page using the ECAM control panel. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 4/62 You are in the Preliminary Cockpit Preparation phase. No. Press the BLEED key on the Ecam Control Panel. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 5/62 You are in the Preliminary Cockpit Preparation phase. No. Press the BLEED key on the Ecam Control Panel. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 6/62 Let’s talk about the indications on the ECAM BLEED page... PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 7/62 The engine identification numbers are displayed amber because the engines are not running. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 8/62 PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 9/62 During preliminary cockpit preparation all white lights must be extinguished. With the ENG BLEED pb sw in the lights out position, the bleed valves are automatically controlled by the system. Observe the symbology on the ECAM. The bleed valves are cross-line green because they are fully closed. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 10/62 The HP valves are also automatically controlled by the system. They are displayed crossline green to indicate that they are fully closed. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 11/62 The bleed temperature is displayed in green. The bleed pressure is displayed in amber because there is no pressure supplied. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 12/62 The GND HP connection indication is always displayed in green when the aircraft is on the ground whether the GND unit is connected or not. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 13/62 You also have to check that the X BLEED selector is in AUTO position. Observe the indication on the ECAM. The X BLEED valve is displayed cross-line green because it is automatically closed by the system. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 14/62 Since the APU BLEED pb sw is selected off, the APU BLEED valve is displayed cross-line green, indicating that it is closed. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 15/62 The next step during Cockpit Preparation is to switch the APU BLEED on. We have already started the APU for you. Swiittcchh APU BLLEED oonn !! Note : Do not use APU BLEED if GND HP air is connected. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 16/62 The next step during Cockpit Preparation is to switch the APU BLEED on. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 24/62 The next step is the walk around. If ground high pressure air is not required, you have to check that the high pressure ground connection door is closed. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 25/62 Usually, APU bleed air is used for engine start. The pressure displayed on the BLEED page is also indicated on the ECAM ENGINE page which will be explained in the ENGINE chapter. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 26/62 Yoouu aarree rreeaaddyy ffoorr eennggiinnee ssttaarrtt.. To start both engines, click on the photograph. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 27/62 Notice that the engine identification numbers have turned white indicating that the engines are running. The engine bleed valves remain closed because the APU bleed valve is open and the APU has priority over the engine bleed. Now, you may switch off the APU. Swiittcchh APU BLLEED ooffff.. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 36/62 With the APU MASTER SW pb in OFF position, the APU BLEED VALVE is no longer displayed on the ECAM. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 37/62 We will now talk about the changes that occur in the pneumatic system during take off. Note : Normally, the ECAM ENGINE page is displayed for take off. For training purposes only, we will display the ECAM BLEED page. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 38/62 PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 39/62 As engine thrust is increased, the pressure delivered from the IP stages is sufficient and the HP valves are automatically closed accordingly. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 40/62 As soon as the aircraft lifts off, the GND HP connection indication disappears. Remember that it is only displayed on the ground. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 41/62 During flight you might need to switch on the wing anti ice system, which uses hot bleed air from the pneumatic system. Observe the indication on the ECAM BLEED page when wing anti ice is used. (For further information, refer to the ICE AND RAIN PROTECTION chapter.) PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 42/62 Let's now see what happens in the pneumatic system when you are back on the ground... PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 43/62 PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 44/62 PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 45/62 • the GND HP air connection indication is displayed • with the engines at idle, the HP VALVES are automatically opened • when the APU is started, the APU BLEED VALVE is displayed PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 46/62 Just before engine shutdown we select the APU BLEED on. This completes the normal operation of the pneumatic system. We will now discuss the indications associated with GND HP air supply. Clliicckk oonn tthhee ffoorrwaarrdd aarrrroow...... PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 61/62 If the APU should be inoperative for bleed air supply, a GND HP air unit can be connected to provide pneumatic pressure for engine start. The GND unit’s pressure and temperature are indicated on the ECAM. PNEUMATIC MENU Normal Operation 62/62 Notice that in this case the X bleed valve remains closed with the X BLEED selector in AUTO position. In order to start engine 2 first, you have to set the X BLEED selector manually to OPEN. This is done according to a procedure in your flight manual. This concludes the PNEUMATIC Normal Operation module. Why don’t you have a coffee before going on ? Module completed !
