OXYGEN MENU System presentation 1/16 OXYGEN MENU System presentation 2/16 OXYGEN MENU System presentation 3/16 OXYGEN MENU System presentation 4/16 On the A320, there are three oxygen systems : • A fixed cockpit oxygen system, with all the controls located in the cockpit, • A fixed cabin oxygen system, • And a portable oxygen system in the cockpit and the cabin. (For utilization, refer to the cabin systems chapter) SSMMOOKKEEHHOOOODD OOXXYYGGEENNBBOOTTTTLLEE OXYGEN MENU System presentation 5/16 Let’s start with the fixed cockpit system. The pilots oxygen masks are located in a storage box on both side consoles. Three or four masks are provided, depending on if the aircraft is equipped with one or two observer seats. PPIILLOOTTOOXXYYGGEENNMMAASSKK OXYGEN MENU System presentation 6/16 The oxygen mask is equipped with several controls and indicators that you will study in more detail in the normal operation module. Let’s have a brief look at these controls : The red grips or release levers, when squeezed, enable the pilot to retrieve the mask from its container. OXYGEN MASK REGULATOR PANEL OXYGEN MENU System presentation 7/16 The blinker flow meter flashes yellow when the oxygen is flowing. OXYGEN MENU System presentation 8/16 The N / 100 % supply selector enables the pilot to select either pure oxygen or a mixture of cabin air and oxygen. OXYGEN MENU System presentation 9/16 The TEST AND RESET control enables the test of the oxygen flow. OXYGEN MENU System presentation 10/16 An EMERGENCY pressure selector, when pressed, provides pressurized oxygen flow for a few seconds. OXYGEN MENU System presentation 11/16 Turned in the direction shown, it delivers permanent positive pressure to the mask. You will have a chance to operate all these controls and look at a video in the normal operation module. OXYGEN MENU System presentation 12/16 The crew controls the oxygen system for the cockpit and the cabin through the OXYGEN panel located on the overhead panel. OXYGEN MENU System presentation 13/16 And monitors the cockpit oxygen system on the ECAM DOOR page. The corresponding indications are displayed in the upper right corner and are color-coded to reflect the system status. OXYGEN MENU System presentation 14/16 The fixed oxygen system in the cabin operates in case of cabin depressurization. OXYGEN MENU System presentation 15/16 This system consists of two to four masks, and chemical oxygen generators. CHEMICAL GENERATOR MMAASSKKSS They are located above the passenger seats, in the lavatories, in each galley, and at each cabin attendant station. You will study the operation of this system in the normal operation module. OXYGEN MENU System presentation 16/16 The portable oxygen system consists of one smoke hood in the cockpit, and several in the cabin. This equipment enables at least 20 minutes of breathing protection. You will see the use of this smoke hood in more detail in the cabin systems chapter.
