Electrical Harnesses
February 2002 WTT face to face CFMI / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, or Export are Prohibited 2
Background
• Harness outer metallic braid found damaged at clamp location
Investigation
• Chafing occurred at clamp locations.
• Clamp cushion wear due to vibration and allow harness braid to contact /
wear against clamp
• Issue identified at 6 different clamp locations in core compartment
 Most of the time when two branches are in the same clamp
Corrective Action
• New clamps design validated (P/N 649-411-981/990-0)
 Includes an additional cushion in between the clamp and the harness
 S/B 72-0285 targeted for Mar 2002

Repairs
• On-wing temporary repair
 Valid up to harness shop visit
 Communicated to airlines through Jan 2001 fleet highlight
• 2 improved on-wing repairs to be introduced in AMM:
 1) Wrapping of the wear external braid with fiberglass insulting tape +
adjunction of a thermal protective metal wire wrapped around the
repaired area
– To be released in AMM Feb 2002 rev.
 2) Adjunction of two half cylindrical shelves secured by the clamps
themselves
– To be released in AMM Jun 2002 rev.
• Shop repair developed
 Metallic outer braid or complete branch replacement
– CMM to be updated

CJ9 / CJ10 Chafing Issue
February 2002 WTT face to face CFMI / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, or Export are Prohibited 4
Background
• Numerous cases of TCC and T3 intermittent faults in-service
• 60% sensors returned are not confirmed at vendor
• Investigation showed oxidation/pollution on connectors pins side which
could explain the intermittent faults
Investigation
• Deeper analysis shows
 Contaminant on pins identified as Si and Al oxides
 Pollution from high temperature sheath found on the connector
sockets
 Flaking sheath found in backshells
 Sheath contain Si and Al oxides
TCC (DAC) / T3 Connector Reliability

February 2002 WTT face to face CFMI / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, or Export are Prohibited 7
Background
• Due to HPTACC thermocouple deletion on the SAC engines, the
production harnesses will be modified and the TCC branch will be
deleted from the CJ9 harness.
• Engines with 7BM1 software can either be fitted with
 Old harness with TCC sensor OR
 Old harness with parking bracket OR
 New harness with plugged TCC orifice
Action Plan
• New harness design available.
• New harness supporting Brackets design in process
• Implementation in production targeted for 3Q 2002
TCC Branch Deletion

February 2002 WTT face to face CFMI / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, or Export are Prohibited 8
Background
• Wires chafing inside the 90° backshell of DP1102 connector
(customer bleed)
• SB 72-0262 issued 26 Jul 2000
 Introduces new improved harness design (P/N 325-029-905-0)
 Provides old configuration (P/N 325-029-901/902-0) rework
instructions
• One case of chafing recently reported on other terminal
Actions Plan
• SB to be revised to extend rework capability the others backshells if
needed
 Design review in process to verify need/effectiveness vs
connectors

February 2002 WTT face to face CFMI / Boeing Proprietary Information - Unauthorized Disclosure, Use, or Export are Prohibited 9
Background
• Component Maintenance Manuals concerning electrical harnesses
have to be updated
• Through WTT Telecon Customers put priority on:
 CMM 26-11-02 = Fire Detection Harnesses MW325, MW326
 CMM 73-24-03 = Engine Harnesses J5, J6, J7, and J8
• Current plan
