1 Trent XWB Newsletter – Issue 5 Summer 2020 Trent XWB Newsletter Optimised for the Airbus A350 XWB Family Issue 5 Summer 2010 On 17 June, the Trent XWB ran for the first time on Test Bed 58 at the Rolls-Royce Derby Headquarters. Trent XWB runs for the first time This was the culmination of four years of optimisation, research and design by Rolls-Royce, its partners and suppliers in close collaboration with Airbus. Programme Director Chris Cholerton said: “we’re delighted to achieve this major milestone which meets a schedule commitment made to our customers four years ago. It has been a tremendous team effort within Rolls-Royce, our partners and supply chain to deliver this hugely impressive engineering achievement – the result of significant investment in people, technology and facilities. Our focus is now on delivering the remaining development engines and executing a successful test programme leading to flight test. Trent XWB engine 20001 will soon be joined by six further development engines: all will be running by early next year. This is the quickest build-up of engines in the test programme of any Trent engine. Early engines will be focused on identifying design improvements ahead of certification and flight testing. to The Trent XWB, will power first flight of the A350XWB-900 in 2012 and entry into service in 2013. The Trent XWB has been developed and optimised exclusively for the Airbus A350 XWB family, which has currently attracted 530 firm aircraft orders from 33 customers, an order book that already exceeds 1,000 engines before its entered into service, another record for any Rolls-Royce engine.
